Concert Dress
(from the music handbook page 3) [updated 11/29]
Women: Dress pants or skirt with a top, or a dress, keeping with the school dress code, and dress shoes (sandals are not acceptable unless they are dress sandals, no flip-flops.)
Men: Dress pants, dress shoes (no athletic shoes), and a collared shirt (polo or button-down dress shirt) keeping with the school dress code. Suit coats are not recommended during the performance (you can wear one before and after if you’d like) as it is typically very warm.
Concert Day Schedule
1:30PM - All choirs warm up in gym
1:50PM - Band warm up in gym
** Choirs: You will need to get your choir robe from the rack by the music room/school commons. You can do this BEFORE or AFTER the warm-up. Please focus your effort on being on time rather than finding your robe.
2:30PM - Pre-Concert Piano Music Begins
3:00PM - Concert Begins
?:??PM - Concert Ends (I would guess 4:05)
Following the concert all choir folders go in cabinet. ALL ROBES MUST BE HUNG WHERE YOU GOT THEM. Instruments should be put in their cases and put away.
What if I’m sick/absent
(from the music handbook page 3)
Because you are a member of a performing group, attendance is required for all mandatory performances both during and outside school time. A complete performance schedule is included with the syllabus and online. Working or not having a ride is never an acceptable excuse for leaving early from or missing a performance. If a student has a conflict with a performance, written notice should be given at least 2 weeks prior to the performance. Only extreme circumstances will be counted as excused absences. No last minute excuses will be accepted. In the case of illness or sudden emergency, an attempt should be made to contact Mr. Martens before the concert and a written excuse signed by a parent/guardian should be submitted at the first rehearsal following the performance. Make-up points for a concert will be available if proper procedure is followed.
Just to reiterate, if a student misses a concert they are required to make up those points through an alternate assignment/s just as they would have to do if they missed any other schoolwork. Failure to do so results in a zero for the concert.
